Circumcision

So, here's an important question. Is circumcision something that we should routinely be doing to boys?

Leaving aside religious reasons, and those few medically necessary times, this always ends up as a huge fight. Sure, circumcision does lead to some protection against STDs and cancers. But on the other side it also leads to less sensitivity and thus, so many would say, lower sexual pleasure.

Click through for the argument that talks us through this: it's highly probable that that desensitizing actually leads to more, not less, sexual pleasure.

Reading and Writing

Clearly this education stuff isn't working all that well as I've found out that a leading online search is for the phrase "how to read a book".

Quite remarkable that the idea of opening the cover and then perusing all of the words in order until you get to the end appears too complex.

Still, fortunately, over at the end of this link there is a filmed guide on how to read a book.

Clearly, publishing the information as a pamphlet would cause problems, both in theory and in practice.

Too Many Nudes

No doubt there's some artistic point to this that I've missed:

A record 18,000 people took off their clothes to pose for U.S. photographic artist Spencer Tunick Sunday in Mexico City's Zocalo square, the heart of the ancient Aztec empire.

Tunick, who has raised eyebrows by staging mass nude photo shoots in cities from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Caracas, smashed his previous record of 7,000 volunteers set in 2003 in Barcelona, Spain.

Directing with a megaphone, Tunick shot a series of pictures with his Mexican models simultaneously raising their arms, then lying on their backs in the square as well as another scene on a side street with volunteers arranged in the shape of an arrow.

Well, whatever anyone wants to do of course, but why?

Larry King Surgery

The veteran journalist and TV star Larry King is recovering from surgery:

Veteran CNN talk show host Larry King had surgery on Friday to clear an artery blockage but plans to return to work on Monday to interview U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama, the network said.

King, 73, emerged from the scheduled operation without any complications and was alert and talking to his staff by the afternoon, CNN spokeswoman Bridget Leininger said.

"He was actually already giving orders to us for Monday," she said.

The operation, called a carotid endarterectomy, removes plaque that can build up in a patient's carotid artery, a blood vessel that supplies the neck and head.

The procedure was performed on King at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Leininger said.

"Larry is doing great and he is excited to be back on the air Monday night with an interview with Sen. Barack Obama as we mark the fourth anniversary of the Iraq war," CNN said in a statement.

Wish him well.

Marisa Tomei

Marisa Tomei is due to star in a new CBSpilot:

Marisa Tomei will play the title role in CBS' comedy pilot "The Rich Inner Life of Penelope Cloud."

The Oscar winner will play a brilliant, opinionated writer struggling to deliver the follow-up to her acclaimed first novel. She has an epiphany and tries to recapture her youthful optimism.

Tomei is currently in movie theaters with box office champ "Wild Hogs." Her TV credits include a cameo as herself in an episode of "Seinfeld." She won an Academy Award for her supporting turn in 1992's "My Cousin Vinny" and was nominated nine years later for "In the Bedroom."

If you're not sure how these things work, yes, going from being an Oscar winner to a TV show is indeed a step down in the world.

Anna Nicole Smith Facts

From Reuters, a handy little listing of facts about the late Anna Nicole Smith:

Former Playboy Playmate and billionaire's widow Anna Nicole Smith has died at the age of 39 after apparently collapsing in a Florida hotel room, her lawyer said on Thursday.

Following are some facts about Smith:

* Smith had been ordered to have her five-month-old baby undergo a paternity test as part of a lawsuit by an ex-boyfriend, his attorney said. Larry Birkhead sued Smith in October, demanding she have the paternity test because he believed he was the father of the baby girl she gave birth to in the Bahamas on September 7.

* Smith's 20-year-old son, Daniel, died in the Bahamas three days after the birth of her daughter. A pathologist hired by the model said he apparently died from a drug overdose.

* Smith was Playboy's Playmate of the Year in 1993. In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall after meeting him at a strip club.

* Marshall's death 14 months later set off a legal battle over his estate between Smith and her husband's son, E. Pierce Marshall, who died in June.

* In May, Anna Nicole won a U.S. Supreme Court decision in the suit giving her another chance to collect millions of dollars.

* She starred in a short-lived cable television reality series, "The Anna Nicole Show," from 2002 to 2004.

K-Fed and that Divorce

Kevin Federling has rejected the divorce offer from Britney Spears:

Britney Spears' estranged hubby Kevin Federline has reportedly turned down a divorce settlement which could have landed him $25 million (£12.7m).

It is thought that K-Fed refused the offer because it would mean him cutting ties with his wife and their two children.

The celebrity couple, who split in November last year, had reportedly recently agreed that Federline have physical custody of Jayden James and Sean Preston three times a week at Spear's home before the current offer.

Jesu Christe, the boy's even dumber than anyone thought. There was a pre-nup, so he gets nothing of Britney's money. Take it you fool!

Brandy's Lawsuit

Looks like Brandy is getting sued for a lotta money after her car crash:

Singer-actress Brandy was sued for $50 million on Tuesday by the family of a woman killed in a four-car freeway crash which police have blamed on the 27-year-old performer.

The wrongful death lawsuit by the parents of Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court a day after police recommended that prosecutors charge Brandy with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter.

The California Highway Patrol found that the entertainer, whose full name is Brandy Norwood, was at fault in the December 30 accident for failing to prevent her Land Rover from hitting the car in front of her when traffic suddenly slowed, CHP spokesman Leland Tang said this week.

Yeah, OK, we know she's rich, that's why the sum of money is so high. But it isn0t her that would have to pay if they won. It would be the company that had insured her car. Can't believe that this suit will get very far. Why should an accident caused by someone rich cost the insurance company more than one caused by someone poor?
